BRAND NEW LAWN MOWER STOPPED WORKING

Craftsman - BRAND NEW LAWN MOWER STOPPED WORKING
Updated by user Jul 08, 2025

I got a call from the small engine repair shop this morning (authorized Craftsman repair center), 15 days after dropping the mower off 30 miles out of town, and it is ready to pick up. I asked what was wrong with it, and their reply was there "was trash/dirt/water in the carburetor and it had to be cleaned out." WOW - how could that happen after one use?

Still no response from Craftsman after posting review. So disappointing.

M220 140-cc 21 - In Self-Propelled Gas Push Lawn Mower with Briggs & Stratton 140 cc Engine
I purchased this mower NEW, online through my local Ace Hardware store in mid-May 2025 for $400. It worked great ONE TIME.

The next time I went to mow in June, it would NOT START. I had my car-guy neighbor look at it and he determined it wasnt getting gas to the engine. I took it back to the Ace Hardware store and spoke to a manager there. The next day, after his repair guy looked at it, he called me to say that the engine is not getting gas (just as my neighbor said), but since they are not an authorized Craftsman repair center, his guy couldnt try to fix it.

He also said that since I bought it online, he couldnt simply give me my money back or exchange it. I would have to take it to an authorized Craftsman repair center about 30 miles away. So now in mid-June, my grass needs mowing badly! After an hour on the phone with Craftsman, I was able to get a CASE NUMBER as the authorized repair center would not do warranty work without a dated bill of sale and proof of product registration.

After I got the mower to the authorized repair center, they told me that it would be one and a half to two weeks before they could get to it. They also mentioned that they make like ten cents on the dollar to do these warranty jobs, so they really are not too worried about my lawn getting cut. Now it is July 1, and I AM STILL WITHOUT A MOWER. In the meantime, I have borrowed a lawn mower from a very kind coworker so I wont get fined by my homeowners association for failure to keep my lawn in shape.

Here is my biggest concern: if it worked once and then stopped working, when they fix it, will it just work once again and stop working again? My suggestion: DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!

WHAT A HASSLE THIS HAS BEEN. I used to believe in Craftsman products, but this experience has definitely changed my mind.

To make awareness

I got a Craftsman impact wrench for my birthday last year. It quit working.

It has a 3-year warranty. I reported it, and I was told it's not under warranty. Craftsman lies.

I haven't even had this impact wrench for one year. Craftsman is a liar.

Battery

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Recently, my class and battery died, and I don't have a battery charger, and I don't really want to buy one. So I was wondering if I could use my 12 V car battery to jumpstart the engine, but I'm not using any jumper cables.

I'd start the battery with the 12 V car battery, and once the engine turns over, then I'd switch out the car battery for the lawnmower battery. I want to know, will it work, and if it does work, will it ruin my lawnmower?

Chainsaw wont work and cant be returned

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I purchased a Craftsman chainsaw, gas-powered, at Lowe's in Derby, KS, on June 13, 2025. I have my receipt, but Lowe's told me they only have a 48-hour return policy on gas-powered equipment.

I contacted Craftsman, and they told me yes, it's under a 2-year warranty, but I have to take it to an in-network service repair company. The closest one to me is 2 hours away in Topeka, KS, and I can't go that far; I have to use a borrowed car. This place tells me I have to pay $60 just for them to look at it to see if it is a manufacturing defect. I mixed the oil that came with it to the proper ratio of gas as directed, used the saw one time, and now it won't work.

I just paid $250 less than a month ago and have been dealing with Craftsman since the middle of June 2025. I can't afford an additional $60 or drive 2 hours to have it looked at. I'm not asking for my money back; I just want a saw that works.

I've done all the troubleshooting and talked to about 6 different support people only to be told the same thing, plus a couple of people from Lowe's. This experience has taught me not to buy from Craftsman or Lowe's ever again.

User's recommendation: Beware of craftsman chainsaws, they are junk snd they make you jump through hoops just to get a redolution and lowes only has a 48 hour return on any gas powered equip and they dont tell you that either.

Ive bought 4 full size craftsman tool boxes , several tools , several power tools . Washer and dryers.

Several lawnmowers and other equipment. I lived in Flint Michigan growing up and that was the only big box store there was.

Very disappointed in the help I asked for.. I have 2 jacks in a junk pile that I spent over $400 on those jacks and over $5,000 just in tools and double deck boxes

Need party. Ai is absolutely no help as usual due to unable to verify specific part issue.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Have a craftsman 4500 riding mower. Need a replacement blade belt.

Mower reads 46 on discharge chute yet on id plate states 42. Wish to verify which one is correct to insure correct part ordered. AI was absolutely no help as it couldnt understand situation.

Was told to go to web site to order part , once again unsure of what part to order 46 or 42. I believe a human could assist and answer questions to ensure correct part.

Called part line and have been listening to some elevator music for 28 min at this time and still no answer.

My suggestion would be to get rid of AI altogether as humans have the ability to understand difficult issues as in my case.

Have been using craftsman tools since I was a child ( am 70 now)and hate the thought of changing tool brand due to lack of customer service but this is ridiculous.

Could always order from Amazon and get part for less but am trying to stay loyal to craftsman but after this I am rethinking my loyalty and considering switching tool manufactures.

Called craftsman there customer service is off shore asked for us based customer service was told there is none

Original review Jun 26, 2025
I have old Craftsman tools from the 60s to the present. Lowe's said the tool can only be replaced with the same part number.

Craftsman changed part numbers on most of my tools. They told me to call Craftsman customer service. They were pretty good at first. I sent about 20 broken tools in because I have so many tools.

Now they want me to take my tools 150 miles away to a service center to prove I own them. I sent them an email telling them I'm not driving 150 miles one way to have my tools replaced. The email I got back said they need proof of why I want them replaced. I'm pissed.

Every tool I own is Craftsman.

I used my tools as collateral on my truck loan; they were appraised for $10,058.00 in 2000. I never had a problem with Sears for replacement.

Warranty for an all in one screw driver

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

This was bought from sears in 1998 and some of the drivers are stuck in the slots and the holding Magnet is weak. The part number on the driver is 41748 and is not in any store.

Ive tried Ace and Lowes. They both gave me the warranty service number.

Ive been on hold now for 47 mins and Im not sure if anyone is going to answer the phone. Just hung up and thought Id try a different approach.

User's recommendation: I have not had a response from craftsman, nor do I expect one.. To all consumers , please do not waste your time buying from craftsman tools. Go to your local auto parts store to get hand tools. At least you’ll know you will have a place to return for warranty.

My weedeater is a year old and the shaft on the weedeater is locked up. It has to be replaced, but there is no small engine shop in my area that would deal with craftsman or depart that I need so I was making this known to people that buy craftsman parts That it is hail and high water to get a warranty honored.
